Oct 2021 - Jeep Safari
Today will be a day that is full of fun, excitement and adventure! We veer off the beaten track and head into the heart of the Algarve in a convoy of open top jeeps with professional drivers at the helm! As we go up hills and down valleys, we will cross streams and traverse meadows in a roller-coaster ride through the countryside. We can enjoy the spectacular scenery of an area almost untouched by time with plenty of photo-stop opportunities.
Along the way, we stop for lunch and visit a small local distillery. Here, the brave can sample "medronho" - a very potent local drink, and we can also see honey being made the traditional way.
Then it's back to the resort where our safari will end.
2022 Tours - Journey into Portugal's Past
Today we will travel in the footsteps of Portugal's history and in those of famous navigators.
Our first stop is the town of Silves, the former Moorish capital of the Algarve, where we will visit its castle. The ancient Arab fortress with crenellated perimeter red limestone walls sits atop the city. Then, we continue to a local Quinta winery for visit and wine tasting.
Afterwards, we travel to the end of the known world at the time as we first journey towards Lagos, the large port town which has played a part in several stories from the time of the Portuguese Discoveries. Here we will see the Statue of Henry the Navigator, who used Lagos in 1415 as his maritime base to begin the era of Portuguese maritime discoveries.
We will travel along the Algarve coast towards Sagres to visit the site of Sagres School of Navigation. Started in the 15th Century, it was the first learning centre ever of its kind. Finally, we continue towards Cabo de São Vicente, the most south-western point of continental Europe - the end of the world before the navigators found the New World across fiery Atlantic seas. We return to the resort late afteroon.
