Overview

Apr 25-28, 2022 - COMING SOON

Enjoy a short break to Andalusia & Gibraltar. A short extension between the April 2022 Portugal & Spain Member Events, or a nice extension to see more of the region

For members attending the Vilar do Golf Event in Portugal, we are offering the opportunity to stay a little longer and explore further into the famous Spanish region of Andalusia and a visit to the British enclave in southern Spain, Gibraltar.

Andalusian culture is what most people think of when they think of Spain; bullfighting, sunny dry climate, flamenco, tapas, fiestas, beaches and diverse geography. Experience the culture and immerse yourself in local history with visits to the cities of Seville, Jerez, Cádiz and the famous Rock of Gibraltar.

Highlights include a traditional Flamenco Show in Seville, a demonstration at the Royal Horse School where horses dance, traditional sherry at the Sandeman winery in Jerez and traditional British ‘fish and chips’ in Gibraltar.

DAY 1 - Seville via the 'Columbus Route'

We leave the resort and Portugal this morning, heading over the border into Spain and towards Seville. We stop en route for a panoramic sightseeing tour of Huelva, a small but beautiful town in southern Andalusia with historical connections to Christopher Columbus.

After lunch enjoyed together, we then drive along the ‘Columbus Route’ to visit the monastery of La Rábida, where Columbus planned his explorations and voyages and will be fascinating for all of us who have links to this period of history. We will also visit the Pier of the Caravels, where there is a small museum in which we will see the replicas of the three ships that participated in discovering America – La Pinta, La Nina and the Santa Maria.

We continue on to Seville, our base for the next two nights. After check-in, there will be time to freshen up before we have dinner together this evening at the hotel.

Included meals: Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: 4* Macarena Hotel, Seville or similar

DAY 2 - Seville Sightseeing & Flamenco Show

Seville is the capital of southern Spain’s Andalusia region and famous for flamenco dancing. Today will be dedicated to seeing the very best of Seville. This morning we enoy a guided sightseeing tour of the historic city centre including entrance to the Gothic Cathedral, the site of Christopher Columbus’s tomb, and a minaret turned bell tower, the Giralda. After the tour there will be some free time for you to explore at your own pace and find somewhere for lunch.

This afternoon we will enjoy a panoramic tour of the Plaza de España, a landmark square with a large water feature and seats with painted ceramic tiles and also an ornate pavilion.

We will have an early dinner in the hotel together before travelling by coach to enjoy a traditional Flamenco show, returning back to the hotel later in the evening.

Included meals: Breakfast & Dinner
Accommodation: 4* Macarena Hotel, Seville or similar

DAY 3 - Jerez - Royal Horses and Sherry & Captivating Cadiz

We leave Seville today to explore further afield. The first stop will be at the famous Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, located in the heart of Jerez. This is one of the most prestigious classical riding academies in the world and we will see a demonstration of this equestrian ballet, accompanied by music with riders in 18th century styled costumes.

From here, we will visit the nearby Sandeman’s Sherry Visitor Centre. On our tour we will get to learn how this popular wine is made with the opportunity to taste it and make some purchases if you wish.

There will be free time for you to get your lunch before we depart for Cádiz for a panoramic sightseeing tour. The city stands on a peninsula jutting out into the bay which is almost entirely surrounded by water and is the oldest city on record in Western Europe. We return to Jerez and check-in at our hotel.

Dinner will be together this evening in the hotel.

Included meals: Breakfast & Dinner
Accommodation: 4* Hotel Sherry Park, Jerez or similar

DAY 4 - The 'Rock of Gibraltar' - a little corner of England in the south of Spain

Make sure your passports are to hand this morning - you may need to show them. A great experience awaits us on our final excursion to Gibraltar. This area has always been strategically important as a military base because this is where the Mediterranean Sea narrows to only 9 miles across. The 'Rock of Gibraltar', a 1,400 feet high limestone rock rising out of the sea, has been a British territory since 1713. Highlights of today's tour will include entrance to the San Miguel Caves with their intricate limestone formations showcased with colourful lights, and the Monkey Reserve where the famous Barbary Apes live. The views from around the island are spectacular and stops will be made for photo opportunities. After the tour we will enjoy traditional British ‘Fish & Chips’ for lunch.

We continue our journey along the Mediterranean coast to Los Amigos Beach resort, where we will spend the evening at leisure to relax and prepare for our next adventure. For those that leave us here and are not joining the Experience Spain event, it is time to make your own way onwards home.
